Stressed Out

Do you ever feel like you’re running in circles, struggling to stay focused and motivated during the day? I understand. I’ve been there! A good morning routine can really help. It’s not about a magical solution; it’s about finding what works best for you to start your day on the right foot. I’ve tried different habits, and I want to share some morning rituals that have helped me make the most of my day, along with other great ideas to inspire you.

What is a ritual?

ritual is a set of actions, behaviors, or practices performed regularly, often with a sense of purpose, meaning, or tradition. Rituals can be personal, cultural, religious, or habitual, and they help provide structure, consistency, and emotional or spiritual significance in daily life.

Starting with Gratitude and Intention:

For me, it all begins with gratitude. When I wake up, I take a few seconds to appreciate simply being alive and say a little prayer. It’s small, but it instantly shifts my mindset to a positive one. This simple act reminds me of what’s important and sets a grateful tone for the day.

Small Acts, Big Impact:

Making my bed each morning gives me a sense of achievement and order. Working from home, I feel good when my bed is clean and made. I do a quick five-minute stretch to wake up my body and get blood flowing. It leaves me feeling refreshed and energized. I drink a glass of water to rehydrate after sleeping. I check my phone for news, but I don’t spend much time on it. There’s usually more bad news than good. Still, I want to stay informed.

Caring for My Pets and Myself

My dogs are a significant part of my life. When the weather is good, we go for a 20-minute walk. These walks are crucial for both my dogs and me. The fresh air and light exercise help me clear my mind and boost my mood. I walk them 2-3 times each day for 20 minutes, which also helps me break up my workday. I remind myself, “This will be a good day.” This routine has become a natural part of my mornings.

Fueling My Body and Mind:

I’ve learned that skipping breakfast leaves me sluggish and unfocused. Incorporating a nutritious breakfast into my morning routine has made a world of difference in my energy. It doesn’t need to be complicated—a smoothie or a bowl of oatmeal can make a big difference.

Affirmations and Positive Self-Talk:

I’ve started reading affirmations out loud, a helpful practice that supports positive thinking and helps counter negative thoughts. This is a great way to start the day with confidence and self-belief.

Tackling the Day and Managing Stress

Once my morning routine is complete, I feel much better prepared to tackle the workday. Even the best-laid plans can go awry. I’ve learned to take short breaks to regroup when stress hits. Sometimes I’ll even say out loud, “This day shall pass,” as a reminder that challenges are temporary.

Talking to someone I trust is another effective way for me to relieve stress. I’ve also come to realize that unfinished work and stress are closely intertwined. Procrastination only amplifies stress. Addressing tasks head-on, even the difficult ones, is crucial for maintaining peace of mind.

On a Positive Note

Ending the day on a positive note is just as important as starting it well. I make a point to finish each day with something enjoyable, whether that’s reading a book, spending time with loved ones, or pursuing a hobby. This helps me unwind and transition smoothly into the evening. I’m currently taking courses, so I also set aside time to study.
