My Love for Elephants
I don’t remember when I first fell in love with elephants, but they have been part of my life for some time now. To me, elephants are the gentle giants of the Earth. I feel a strong connection to them because they are mothers and protectors of their families.
Elephants are revered as symbols of good luck, prosperity, the destruction of evil, and the removal of obstacles, as well as strength, power, wisdom, memory, and vitality. I love elephants so much that I had to get a tattoo. Okay, the truth is, I had to cover up a tattoo I got when I was younger. Why not get something meaningful this time?

Roadside Attraction
Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium is an incredible roadside attraction in Pennsylvania that combines the charm of an elephant museum with the delights of a candy store. Located at 6019 Chambersburg Rd, Orrtanna, PA, it offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages.
As I entered the address into my GPS, I saw the drive would take about 3 hours and 15 minutes. I welcomed the journey, excited to explore a place dedicated to elephants, a passion since childhood. Upon arrival, I was immediately captivated. The museum boasts an extensive collection of elephant-related memorabilia, from art to figurines, highlighting the significance of these majestic animals across cultures. As I wandered through the exhibits, I felt a deep sense of wonder and nostalgia.
The candy emporium was equally captivating, offering a wide selection of sweets, from nostalgic favorites to handcrafted, artisanal treats. The vibrant hues and inviting fragrances rekindled my childhood wonder, filling me with joyful anticipation. Overwhelmed by the variety, I was treated to a sensory feast of intriguing elephant displays and tempting candies.
As we entered the large driveway, we encountered an enchanting array of elephant sculptures scattered across the grounds. Each sculpture seemed to tell its own story, enhancing the playful ambiance. This impressive collection belonged to Mister Ed, who proudly owns more than 12,000 elephant figurines.
His diverse collection ranges from intricately crafted porcelain pieces to vibrant circus souvenirs. Highlighting the rich history and allure of these majestic animals. The assortment also includes distinctive political memorabilia and a variety of toys. Creating a captivating blend of art, nostalgia, and personal passion. Every corner of the grounds invites exploration and sparks curiosity, making it a memorable destination.
This attraction appeals to visitors of all ages, as we experienced during our visit. I saw a diverse group of people enjoying their day: enthusiastic solo photographers, romantic couples, and families smiling and posing for photos. It was a joy to see their happiness, made even better by the beautiful weather. The sun was shining brightly, and the temperature was approaching 80 degrees. I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect day for a road trip.
“Mister Ed” Gotwalt (May 20, 1936-February 26, 2021) was the founder and former owner of Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium and a beloved Gettysburg-area legend. He and his wife, Pat, sold the business to his granddaughter, Nicole, and her husband, Isaac, in 2014.
There is a trail that goes through Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. You will see a Bigfoot statue, some giraffes, and a shed that was transformed into a giant teapot.
Miss Pat’s Teapots
Miss Pat’s Teapot Museum is a teapot-shaped shed featuring over 200 fabulous, handcrafted teapots. There were all kinds of teapots, from animals to people. It was amazing to see the creative designs.
Candy and Elephants: OH MY!!!
After spending over an hour outside, we went inside. The first scents I noticed were homemade fudge and roasted nuts, which brought back childhood memories. In the center of the store stands a large elephant sculpture, surrounded by hundreds of elephant-themed items.
You can also find gifts for yourself, such as jewelry, clothing, cups, and other elephant-inspired products. We bought T-shirts and candy, and I couldn’t resist bringing home an elephant. After years of wanting to visit, I’m glad I finally did. This place is a must-see, and I highly recommend it.
