Bad luck, Good luck
Itโs Friday the 13th, so will today bring bad luck or good luck? A day that is considered to be unlucky by many people around the world. But why do we believe in superstitions? There are many different superstitions that people believe in. Some believe that walking under a ladder brings bad luck. Others believe that if a black cat crosses their path, it will bring bad luck.
Superstitions are beliefs that are not based on reason or knowledge. They are often irrational and can be about anything from good or bad luck omens to particular objects, numbers, or colors. While most superstitions are harmless, some can harm our lives.
For example, the superstition that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day can lead to anxiety and stress for some people. This can impact their productivity at work or cause them to avoid certain activities. So, why do we believe in superstitions? There are several reasons, including our desire to control the world around us and a need to feel safe. Keep reading to learn more about the psychology behind superstitions and how they can impact our lives.
Friday the 13th
I was born on the 13th day of February, so I had a few birthdays fall on a Friday. Growing up, you associated Friday the 13th with anything bad or superstitious.ย
I remember being 8 or 9 years old, going to a slumber party, and forgetting some things in my bag. I didn’t blame myself for not checking my bag. Or maybe blame my mother for packing my suitcase. I blamed the day on bad luck. “Oh, it’s Friday the 13th, and I have bad luck.” Now that I’m older, I don’t believe in bad luck or a cursed day.
I believe in only good luck, so I wonder if I’m a hypocrite. I have learned that what you put in your mind and think can make you act and feel specific ways. There is no single definition of superstition. It means believing in supernatural forces, such as fate, the desire to influence unpredictable factors, and a need to resolve uncertainty.
The History of Friday the 13th
There are many different stories about how the history of Friday the 13th came to be associated with fear. One myth stems from the Knights Templar’s arrest and burning across France on October 13, 1307. The fear of the 13th alsoย stems fromย Triskaidekaphobiaย (an irrational or disproportionate fear of the number 13), which originated withย Paraskevi.ย
(Greek for Friday) Many Catholics also believed in Jesus’s last supper and crucifixion, in which there were 13 people present in the Upper Room on the 13th of Nisan, Maundy Thursdayโthe night before his death on Good Friday.
All these fears and superstitions have made an excellent way for movies. One of the biggest horror movies is Friday the 13thโthe birth of Jason Vorhees, the hockey-masked killer that never seems to die, truly. I’m just naming this one because there were over twelve movies made. Many stories can be associated with this number.
With the bad comes the good. Greek Goddesses associated this day with good luck and good fortune. It was considered the day of the Goddess. A day to worship the Divine Feminine that lives in all of us. It was also a day to honor creation, death, and the cycles of birth.
Women were considered to have magical powers when they got their menstrual cycle. As time passed, being a woman who was empowered became a woman to be shamed, and bad luck followed along.
Full Moon Influence

The Moon influences the tides and people’s behavior and increases your libido. It’s been known that there is an increase in accidents, crimes, and suicides during this time. Some people think that a full moon affects our emotions and moods.
How to bring Good Luck to You
Charge your crystals on a windowsill or outside, letting them charge by the moon’s light.
- Make a wish.
- Meditate, take a relaxing bath.
- Read Your Cards.
- Forgiveness Ritual.
- Be Grateful and learn to be satisfied to bring more luck to you.
Full Moon Superstitions
Some believe breaking a mirror will give you 7 years of bad luck; that if you cut your hair on a full moon, it will grow back quicker; that full moons trigger childbirth; and that if you hang your laundry out, it will shine, are a few to name.
After writing this article, I feel more positive about this day that is put into a negative light. I believe you make your day with positive thoughts, and a number nor a Moon should determine how your day will be. Go out and enjoy this beautiful day, watch some cheesy horror movies for the evening, and have some good laughs.
