Why You Need a Vision You Can See

We live in a world of distractions. From endless scrolling on social media to work, responsibilities, and unexpected life challenges, it’s easy to lose sight of what you truly want. That’s where a digital vision board comes in—a powerful, visual reminder of the life you’re working toward.

When you see your goals daily, your mind stays focused, your heart stays aligned, and your energy stays inspired. Whether you want to attract success, create healthier habits, travel more, or rediscover yourself, having a clear visual representation of your vision keeps you anchored and motivated.

The best part is that you don’t need scissors, glue, or old magazines. However, if you prefer a traditional method, feel free to read my article about the Vision Board Party I hosted, where we used old magazines and scissors. It was a fabulous party with family and friends!

In today’s digital age, you can create a personalized, high-quality vision board using Canva and keep it right on your phone or desktop—and even print it out through a low-cost option.

The Power of Visualization

Visualization is a mental rehearsal. Just as athletes visualize themselves crossing the finish line, you can envision yourself achieving your biggest dreams. When you see it, your brain starts to believe it—and your actions follow that belief.

Vision boards are a tool to support that visualization. They serve as daily reminders of:

  • What do you want to achieve?
  • Who are you becoming?
  • Why are you doing the work?

A digital vision board is more than a collection of pretty pictures. It’s your commitment. It’s your story waiting to unfold.

Vision Board Encouragement & Motivation

Why Your Vision Board Matters

This isn’t just about pretty pictures or passing trends; it’s about what matters to you. Your goals need your focus, and your life needs a clear path. A vision board helps you take charge of your life. It says, “I won’t just go with the flow; I want to create my life on purpose.” Even if no one else notices the work you’re doing, your vision board will remind you to appreciate your journey.

You see the person you’re becoming.
You see the goals you’re crushing.
You see the healing, the rising, the blooming.

Set the Vision Before You Create

Before diving into design, take the time to clarify what matters most. Ask yourself:

  • What are my goals for this year?
  • How do I want to feel every day?
  • What do I want to create, attract, or change?
  • Where do I want to travel, live, or grow?
  • What does success look like for me?

Break your vision into categories. Some common ones include:

🌿 Health & Wellness

💼 Career & Finances

💗 Love & Relationships

🧘🏽‍♀️ Spiritual Growth

✈️ Travel & Adventure

🏡 Home & Lifestyle

📚 Education & Skills

Write your answers down. The more specific you are, the more powerful your board will be.

Set Goals that Stick

S.M.A.R.T. Goals

S – Specific
What exactly do you want to achieve?
The more precise you are, the easier it is to focus and take action. Avoid generalizations like “get healthy” or “make more money.”

Example:
Instead of “I want to be healthier,” say:
“I want to walk 30 minutes every morning before work.”

M – Measurable
How will you track your progress?
You need a way to measure your progress toward your goal. Numbers help you stay on track.

Example:
“Lose 10 pounds in 8 weeks” is measurable.
“Read one book per month” gives you a clear target.

A – Achievable
Is this realistic given your current resources and time?
Your goal should challenge you, but still be within reach. This builds confidence and momentum.

Example:
If you’re new to running, aiming for a marathon in 2 months might be overwhelming.
“Jog 3 times a week for 20 minutes” is more doable.

R – Relevant
Does this goal align with your life, values, and bigger vision?
It should matter to you, not be based on someone else’s idea of success.

Example:
If your vision board includes travel and freedom, then saving $200/month for a trip is relevant.
A goal to work 80 hours/week for extra income may not be, if freedom is your core value.

T – Time-bound
When will you accomplish this goal?
A deadline gives your goal urgency and purpose. Without it, it’s just a wish.

Example:
“Launch my website by March 1st.”
“Write 500 words every day for 30 days.”

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Your Digital Vision Board Using Canva

Step 1: Sign Up or Log In to Canva

Visit www.canva.com and log in or create a free account. The free version offers everything you need to get started.

Step 2: Choose the Right Template

Click Create a Design, then search for “desktop wallpaper” or “phone wallpaper,” depending on where you plan to use it. You can also type “vision board” in the search bar—Canva has beautiful pre-made layouts to customize.

Recommended Sizes:

  • Desktop wallpaper: 1920 x 1080 px
  • Phone wallpaper: 1080 x 1920 px
  • Printable: 8.5 x 11 in (standard paper) or 11 x 17 in (poster)

Step 3: Collect Your Images

Use Canva’s free photo library or upload your images. Choose pictures that evoke emotion. Think about:

  • Travel destinations
  • Inspirational quotes
  • Images that symbolize financial freedom
  • Happy families or friendships
  • Dream homes, businesses, or creative projects
  • Words like “Joy,” “Faith,” “Focus,” or “Discipline”

Pro Tip: Use Pinterest to gather inspiration first. Then upload the images that speak to your heart directly into Canva.

Step 4: Arrange Your Board

Drag and drop your images into the canvas. Group them by theme or scatter them based on your preference.

  • Use grids or frames in Canva for a clean layout.
  • Add text boxes to include affirmations or your word of the year.
  • Don’t clutter it—leave breathing room between images so it feels calm, not chaotic.

Step 5: Add Affirmations and Words of Power

Examples:

  • “I am worthy of abundance.”
  • “My health is my priority.”
  • “I am creating a life I love.”
  • “Success flows to me easily.”

Words add energy. They turn pictures into prayers and visuals into vows.

Step 6: Final Touches

Pick a color palette that uplifts you. Use Canva’s filters or adjust the brightness, contrast, and saturation for a harmonious look. Once you’re happy with it, give it a name, such as ‘My Vision 2025’ or ‘Living My Best Life Board’.

Part Four: Saving and Using Your Digital Vision Board

Save It to Your Devices

  • Click Download and choose JPG or PNG format.
  • Save one version for your phone wallpaper and another for your desktop background.
  • You can also save it to your Google Drive or Dropbox for easy access anywhere.

Set It as Your Phone or Laptop Wallpaper

Seeing your goals every time you open your phone is a powerful motivator. It’s like whispering encouragement to yourself all day long.

  • On iPhone: Go to Settings → Wallpaper → Choose New Wallpaper
  • On Android: Long-press on the home screen → Wallpapers → Select image

Part Five: Printing Your Vision Board with Staples

Why Print It?

A printed vision board adds a layer of commitment. You can place it:

  • On your bedroom or bathroom wall
  • Inside a planner or journal
  • On your fridge or office space
  • In a vision board frame

How to Print with Staples (Budget-Friendly)

  1. Go to Staples Print & Marketing
  2. Click on “Posters” or “Color Prints”
  3. Upload your file (preferably PNG or PDF for best quality)
  4. Choose your size: 8.5” x 11”, 11” x 17”, or even larger!
  5. Pick your paper type (Glossy is great for vibrant images)
  6. Choose “Pick Up In Store” or shipping

Printing starts at $0.50 for small sizes. You can even laminate it or add a foam board backing.

Make Your Vision Board a Daily Ritual

Creating your vision board is just the beginning. The magic is in how often you interact with it. Here’s how to stay connected to your vision:

Look at It Every Morning and Night

Start and end your day by grounding yourself in your goals. Take a deep breath and imagine yourself already living the life shown on your board.

Use It During Meditation or Prayer

Close your eyes and visualize the images coming to life. Imagine the feelings, the sounds, the smells. Make it real in your spirit.

Journal About It Weekly

Write down progress, obstacles, and insights. Keep a “Vision Journal” to track how your energy is aligning with your goals.

Share It

Post a snapshot on your Instagram story, send it to an accountability buddy, or include it in your planner. Talking about your vision reinforces it.

Monthly Check-In

On the first of each month:

  • Look at your board.
  • Reflect on what’s come true.
  • Adjust what no longer feels aligned.
  • Add new images or create a new board each quarter.

Progress doesn’t have to be perfect—just present. You are allowed to evolve.
