Day Trip to the Jersey Shore

There are some places that never go out of style. Seaside Heights, New Jersey, is one of them. It has been a place where families, friends, and couples have come to create memories for years. When you walk onto the boardwalk and feel the ocean breeze on your face, you will understand why so many people keep coming back summer after summer.

This guide will share everything you need to know about spending a dayโ€”or even a weekendโ€”at Seaside Heights. From parking your car to grabbing a giant slice of pizza, youโ€™ll be ready to have a day filled with simple fun.

Getting There and Parking

Seaside Heights is easily accessible by car. Many people drive in for the day and leave in the evening, but some stay overnight in a motel or rental. When you pull into town, youโ€™ll see plenty of places to park.

Parking Rates:

All-day parking lots start at: $12, $15, or $20, depending on how close you are to the boardwalk and beach. There is also hourly paid parking if you donโ€™t plan to stay the whole day. Most lots take cash. Some establishments may accept cards, but it’s a good idea to bring cash and small bills to avoid rushing to an ATM. (Do not depend on the ATM’s, as they may be out of service due to crowds.)

Tip: If you plan to stay all day and won’t be moving your car, the all-day lots are the easiest option. If you only want to walk the boardwalk for an hour or two, hourly parking is a cost-effective option.

The Best Time to Visit

Seaside Heights gets busy in the summer, especially on weekends and holidays. If you enjoy a lively crowd, consider visiting during the day. But if you prefer more space on the sand, I suggest coming in the evening.

When you arrive later in the day, the crowds start to thin out, and the sun begins to set. The beach looks beautiful with the golden light reflecting on the waves. It also feels cooler, which makes it easier to sit on the sand or take a walk without the intense afternoon heat.

Walking the Boardwalk

The Seaside Heights Boardwalk is the heart of this town. It stretches along the sand with games, rides, shops, and snack stands in every direction.

You can spend hours just walking, looking around, and taking it all in. The boardwalk has a friendly, old-fashioned feel that brings back good memories for many people.

Casino Pier

A Little History of Casino Pier, Seaside Heights, NJ

Casino Pier, a classic Jersey Shore amusement park, has been part of summer memories for generations.

Casino Pier first openedย inย 1932, offering rides, games, and treats to families seeking seaside entertainment. Over the years, itย expanded to include the famousย Jet Starย and later theย Star Jet roller coasters, as well asย arcades, go-karts, mini golf, and a beautiful old carousel.

In 2012, Hurricane Sandy struck, breaking the pier apart and sending the Star Jet coaster crashing into the oceanโ€”a sight that became an unforgettable symbol of the storm. But the community came together to rebuild. By 2017, Casino Pier reopened stronger than ever, with a new steel structure, the thrilling Hydrus coaster, a tall Ferris wheel, and fresh attractions for all ages.

The Rides: You will find a Ferris wheel that lifts you high above the beach so you can see the shoreline for miles. There are roller coasters if you like a thrill, spinning rides for the kids, and gentle rides for little ones. The flashing lights at night create a sense of a small carnival by the sea.

Arcades: Step into one of the arcades and play skee-ball, video games, and claw machines. Even if you donโ€™t win a prize, itโ€™s fun to try.

Games: If you want to test your luck, stop by the stands where you can toss a ring on a bottle or shoot a water gun to race to the finish. The prizes are colorful stuffed animals and toys that make great souvenirs.

Famous Boardwalk Food

One of the best aspects of visiting Seaside Heights is the variety of food options available. The boardwalk is full of food stands that serve treats you canโ€™t always find at home.

Giant Slice of Pizza: A must. The slices are so big you almost need two hands to hold them. The crust is thin, the cheese is melty, and the sauce has just the right kick. One slice is almost like eating a whole meal.

Fried Oreos: The cookies are dipped in batter and fried until they are golden brown on the outside. When you bite into them, they are warm and soft inside. A dusting of powdered sugar on top makes them extra sweet.

Fried Boston Cream Donut: If you’re a fan of Boston cream donuts, you’ll want to try the fried version. The custard inside becomes warm and creamy, while the outside remains crisp.

Ice Cream and Lemonade: Cool down with a cone of soft-serve or a cup of fresh-squeezed lemonade. Both are perfect on a hot day.

Bring cash for food stands. Some places do accept cards, but many only take cash. Having small bills makes it faster and easier.

More Boardwalk Fun!

  • Souvenir Shops: Stop in to pick out a T-shirt, hat, or magnet to remember your trip. Many shops also sell beach toys, towels, and sunscreen if you forgot something at home.
  • Photo Booths: Old-fashioned photo strips make a fun keepsake. Squeeze in with your friends or family and make silly faces.
  • Candy Shops: Walk into a candy shop to find saltwater taffy, homemade fudge, and colorful candy by the pound. A small bag of taffy is a nice treat to take home.
  • Mini Golf: Some boardwalk arcades have mini golf. Itโ€™s a fun way to spend an hour, especially if you have kids with you.
  • Live Music: Depending on when you visit, live bands may be performing or small concerts may be taking place right on the boardwalk.

Tips for a Smooth Visit

1. Bring Cash and Small Bills
Many stands and parking lots only take cash. Having small bills makes things easier, so you donโ€™t have to break a $20 bill for a $2 soda.

2. Check the Weather
The beach is most enjoyable on clear days. If rain is in the forecast, you might still enjoy the arcades and food, but the rides may close.

3. Wear Comfortable Shoes
You will be doing a lot of walking. Sandals are fine, but sneakers are even better if you plan to play games, walk on the beach, and go on rides.

4. Come Early or Late
If you enjoy large crowds and high energy, consider visiting in the late morning or early afternoon. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, consider arriving in the evening.

5. Bring a Beach Bag
Pack sunscreen, water, towels, and a hat. Even if you donโ€™t plan to swim, youโ€™ll want a place to sit on the sand.

Helpful Reminders

  • Parking fills upย quickly on weekends, so please arrive early or consider visitingย later in the day.
  • Bring cash for parking and food. Not every place takes cards.
  • Set a budget for games and treats to avoid overspending.
  • Donโ€™t forget sunscreen. Even on cloudy days, you can get burned.
  • Drink plenty of water. Itโ€™s easy to get dehydrated when youโ€™re outside all day.

Create Memories

If you are looking for a day of easy fun, simple pleasures, and memories that last, Seaside Heights Beach and Boardwalk is the place to go.
