Stressed Out
Do you ever feel like you’re always running in circles, having difficulty staying focused and motivated during the day? I understand, I’ve been there! A good morning routine can really help. It’s not about a magical solution; it’s about finding what works best for you to start your day on the right foot. I’ve tried different habits, and I want to share some morning rituals that have helped me make the most of my day, along with other great ideas to inspire you.
What is a ritual?
A ritual is a set of actions, behaviors, or practices performed regularly, often with a sense of purpose, meaning, or tradition. Rituals can be personal, cultural, religious, or habitual, and they help create structure, consistency, and emotional or spiritual significance in daily life.
Starting with Gratitude and Intention:
For me, it all begins with gratitude. When I wake up, I take a few seconds to appreciate simply being alive and say a little prayer. It’s small, but it instantly shifts my mindset to a positive one. This simple act reminds me of what’s important and sets a grateful tone for the day.
Small Acts, Big Impact:
Making my bed each morning gives me a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of order. I work from home, and having my bed made and clean makes me feel good. After that, I do a quick five-minute stretch. This gentle routine helps wake up my body and get the blood flowing, leaving me feeling refreshed and energized. I drink a glass of water to rehydrate after a night of sleep.
I check my phone for news updates, but I don’t spend too much time on it because there’s usually more bad news than good. I still want to be informed about what’s happening.
Caring for My Pets and Myself
My dogs are a big part of my life. (My husband and daughter have their own morning routines) I am a coffee drinker, and I wake up early before the sun, so I wait until it’s safe to go outside. Weather permitting, we go for a 20-minute walk. These walks are important for both my dogs and me! The fresh air and light exercise help clear my mind and lift my spirits. I walk them 2-3 times a day for 20 minutes each, which also helps break up my workday! I repeat to myself, “This will be a good day.” I’ve gotten into a habit that comes naturally to me each morning.
Fueling My Body and Mind:
I’ve learned that skipping breakfast leaves me feeling sluggish and unfocused. Incorporating a nutritious breakfast into my morning routine has made a world of difference in my energy levels. It doesn’t need to be complicated—a smoothie or a bowl of oatmeal can make a big difference.
Affirmations and Positive Self-Talk:
I’ve started reading affirmations out loud, a helpful practice that supports positive thinking and fights off negative thoughts. This is a great way to begin the day with confidence and self-belief.
Tackling the Day and Managing Stress
Once my morning routine is complete, I feel much more prepared to tackle the workday. Even the best-made plans can sometimes go wrong. I’ve learned to take short breaks to regather myself when stress hits. Sometimes, I’ll even say out loud, “This day shall pass,” as a reminder that challenges are temporary. Talking to someone I trust is another great stress reliever for me.
I’ve also come to realize that unfinished work and stress are closely intertwined. Procrastination only amplifies stress. Addressing tasks head-on, even the difficult ones, is crucial for maintaining peace of mind.
On a Positive Note
Ending the day on a positive note is just as important as starting it well. I make an effort to finish each day with something enjoyable, whether that’s reading a book, spending time with loved ones, or pursuing a hobby. This helps me unwind and transition smoothly into the evening. I’m currently taking courses, so I also set aside time to study.
