A Glimpse into New York’s Grand Past
Perched atop the highest point of Long Island, in Huntington, New York, Oheka Castle is a stunning example of the opulence and grandeur of the Gilded Age. Initially constructed in the early 20th century by Otto Hermann Kahn, a financier and philanthropist, this French-style chateau is the second-largest private home ever built in the United States.
Today, it is a premier location for extravagant weddings, exclusive events, and fascinating historical tours, drawing visitors from across the globe to admire its exquisitely maintained gardens and lavish interiors.

The Vision of Otto Kahn
Otto Kahn was inspired by the castles of Europe and built Oheka Castle as a summer residence. He hosted lavish parties for the elite during the Roaring Twenties, and it soon became a cultural hub for artists, politicians, and celebrities. The castle was a significant gathering place for prosperous individuals during this era of remarkable prosperity.

Oheka Castle is widely known for its French Renaissance architecture. Spread over 109,000 square feet, the estate comprises 127 rooms and beautifully designed formal gardens, reflecting its original occupants’ luxurious lifestyle.
The castle’s interior boasts original artworks, ornate furniture, and handcrafted decorations, many of which have been restored to their original state. The grand ballroom, library, and elegant dining rooms showcase the rich history and craftsmanship of the early 20th century.
After Kahn’s death, the castle underwent a decline, serving various roles, including a military academy and a government training school. It was not until the 1980s that developer Gary Melius purchased the castle and began restoring it to its original splendor. The restoration process is ongoing to this day.
